The facility where we process the waste is a grate incinerator. The unsorted waste is shifted by pushing and tilting grates from top to bottom while it burns. This happens at a temperature of about 950?C and takes about three-quarters of an hour. No fuel at all is added to this process. Unsorted waste is a fuel in its own right. The ISVAG furnace consists of two identical furnace lines which can each process around 9 tonnes of waste per hour, 24 hours per day, all year round. In this way our employees handle about 125,000 to 135,000 tonnes per year. The entire treatment process is computerised and automated. All controls are implemented from the control room, the heart of the facility. The control room operators monitor the operation of the facility on various computer screens.
